    Kermit's Detroit?

Maybe Kermit was thinking of Detroit when he said, "It's not easy being green." In the midst of my research for an environmental story, I stopped to check out my second favorite frog singing on YouTube.  FYI, my favorite frog is actually Kermit's nephew, Robin.

Anyway, I don't think it's hard to be green at all…it's just different here.  Detroit isn't as focused as other parts of the country when it comes to a coordinated environmental effort.  There are really cool things happening…but you have to dig to find them.  For example, Sarah Kubik is doing incredible work with her Recycle Detroit organization.  Greening of Detroit has been around a long time and is very well respected.  Earthworks urban farming program teaches kids about science while supplying produce to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

You get the idea.  Good stuff…but mass transit, recycling bins, riding bikes to work and solar panels aren't part of the local landscape.

What does that mean for us?  Plenty!  We have a real opportunity to come together and make a difference.  Imagine if all the green organizations shared their events and projects in one forum…we'd all know what was going on.  There's a concept!

Let's make CW50's Project Green overflow with Detroit's own version of cool greenness.  We aren't like other places…OMG, that's a good thing!  But, ya' gotta help me out here.  If you're rockin' out a green program, please let me know.  Let's make this the place to share green thoughts and ideas….have a story?  Bring it
