    Getting Involved

    Amy Bergin

At CW50, we're putting our money where our mouth is and have secured a recycling company to pick up our recyclables weekly.  My colleague, Heather, announced this initiative in our last staff meeting.  Everyone seemed interested, even if they were a bit confused as to "what" could be recycled.  When I hear that, I just direct people to the large posters near each recycling area.  :-)   It's not so silly, I often refer to a list I printed from my city on our curbside program.  Hey, if you're going to do something, it's worth doing right.

I actually had a good idea last week. Don't ask where it came from….it just came.  I needed to wrap gifts ('tis the season) and I have never liked wasting all that paper.  Truth be told, I also cringe when wrapping since I can't cut a straight line to save my life.  It's always jagged and embarrassing…it must be because I'm a lefty.

Anyway, I realized it would be really easy to put gifts in storage boxes and tie them shut with ribbons.  The recipient gets the gift inside and also has a box to use later.  You can find them all over the place.  Mine came from IKEA, but I've seen nice ones at Marshall's and Target too.

This solution worked out better than I expected.  The boxes are rigid so the gift inside is protected.  Not only did I cut down on wasted paper, I saved tons of time!  Before you roll your eyes, they actually look really cool once you add the ribbon.  You can get creative there…and I'm sure I'll get compliments this season. :-)
