Celebrate Black History month at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History with several thought-provoking films.  These free films will be shown on the first three Wendesdays of February at 6 p.m.   


The films highlighting the struggles, triumphs and spirit of African American history include:

February One
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 – 6 PM
February One tells the inspiring story surrounding the 1960 Greensboro lunch counter sit-ins that revitalized the Civil Rights Movement and set an example of student militancy for the coming decade.  February 1, 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the Greensboro Student Sit-Ins.  No cost.

The Eyes of Me
Wednesday, February 10, 2010 – 6 PM
How do you see yourself, when you can't see at all? A co-production of ITVS, The Eyes of Me spends a year with four teens from the Texas School for the Blind juggling the pressures of high school with the added struggles of growing up blind.  No cost.

Blacks Without Borders
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 – 6 PM
From filmmaker Stafford U. Bailey, director of such critically acclaimed documentaries as The Other Side of Victory and The Black Road to Hollywood comes Blacks Without Borders, a film that follows a group of globetrotting African Americans who find that many of the boundaries faced in the United States don't exist in South Africa, making it a new land of opportunity.  No cost.

The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is located at 315 East Warren Avenue in Detroit.

For February (Black History Month), the Museum will be open EVERY day of the week.

9 AM – 5 PM Monday – Saturday
1 – 5 PM on Sundays
